Wooden boat restoration

If it's worth fixing, it's worth fixing properly.

Our approach

Restoration begins with understanding

Wooden boat restoration begins with understanding. Before cutting, replacing or repairing, Adelaide Timber Boatworks looks at the whole boat, how it was built, where it has failed and what the right intervention should be.

Too often, timber boats suffer from quick fixes that hide the problem rather than solve it. These short-term solutions can accelerate long-term damage.

At Adelaide Timber Boatworks, restoration is approached with care, honesty and respect for the original builder's methods. Work may range from a fresh coat of varnish through to major restoration.

01

Careful inspection

Every restoration begins with understanding. We look at the whole boat — how it was built, where it has failed and why — before any timber is cut or replaced.

02

Structural repair

Where a boat has weakened, we repair it properly: frames, planking, floors and fastenings restored so the structure carries load the way the original builder intended.

03

Traditional and modern timber methods

We draw on both traditional techniques and modern materials, choosing the approach that gives the boat the best long-term result rather than the quickest one.

04

Varnish and finish work

A deep, well-built finish protects timber and honours it. Our varnish and finish work is patient and layered, bringing out the grain while sealing the boat against the elements.

05

Long-term restoration projects

Some boats need more than a season. We take on substantial, long-term restorations, working steadily toward a vessel that is sound, honest and ready for many more years.

06

Owner consultation throughout

Timber work reveals more as it progresses. We keep owners informed and involved, so decisions about scope, cost and method are made together, with nothing hidden.
